Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is RoundtableRx?

RoundtableRx is the 501(c)3 non-profit that operates the Minnesota Medication Repository Program. We are a licensed pharmacy wholesaler with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy. RoundtableRx receives donations of medications and medical supplies. The donated products are dispensed to Minnesotans in need through partnerships with clinics and pharmacies state-wide.

Is medication redistribution legal?

Yes. Minnesota law allows eligible medications and supplies to be donated and redistributed through the state's medication repository program.

RoundtableRx operates in accordance with Minnesota Statute 151.555 and works with licensed healthcare organizations across the state.

How does medication redistribution work?

Eligible medications that would otherwise be destroyed are donated to RoundtableRx. Medications accepted into the program must meet Minnesota's repository requirements and are reviewed by licensed pharmacists before being distributed to patients.

Eligible medications are then made available to participating pharmacies, clinics, and healthcare providers for redistribution to uninsured and underinsured Minnesotans.

Are redistributed medications safe?

Yes. All medications accepted into the program must meet strict requirements established by Minnesota law.

RoundtableRx works with licensed healthcare professionals to ensure medications meet repository requirements and monitors manufacturer recalls and safety alerts.

Who can receive repository medications?

Repository medications are available to Minnesota residents who are uninsured or underinsured. There are no income requirements to participate.

What does RoundtableRx do with medications that cannot be redistributed?

Not all donated medications meet repository requirements. Products that cannot be safely redistributed are separated and disposed of according to applicable regulations and environmental standards.

Is RoundtableRx available outside Minnesota?

No. RoundtableRx operates under Minnesota law and serves Minnesota residents.

How is RoundtableRx funded?

RoundtableRx is supported through a combination of state funding, grants, and private donations.

Private donations help support medication access, program operations, and the expansion of services throughout Minnesota.

Is RoundtableRx accepting new donor organizations?

RoundtableRx is currently expanding its donor infrastructure and is not actively onboarding new donor organizations at this time.

Organizations interested in becoming future donor partners are encouraged to contact us. We maintain a list of interested organizations and will reach out as new donation opportunities become available.

How can I support RoundtableRx?

There are many ways to support our mission, including making a financial contribution, helping connect us with healthcare organizations, sharing information about the program, or volunteering your expertise.

Our goal is to improve access to medications while reducing unnecessary waste.

How do I receive free medications through RoundtableRx?

Patients cannot order medications directly from RoundtableRx.

Instead, medications are provided through participating pharmacies, clinics, and healthcare providers. Talk with your healthcare provider or contact us to find a participating dispensing partner near you.

Don't see a participating organization in your community? Contact us. We are continually expanding our network of dispensing partners across Minnesota and may be able to help a local pharmacy, clinic, or healthcare provider enroll in the program.

There are no income requirements to participate.

Can I request a specific medication?

Yes. Your healthcare provider or dispensing partner can search the inventory and request available medications on your behalf.

Because inventory is donation-based, availability cannot be guaranteed.

How much do medications cost?

The medication itself is provided at no cost.

Some dispensing partners may charge a dispensing fee as permitted by Minnesota law. Any dispensing fee is determined by the dispensing partner and helps cover the cost of preparing and dispensing the medication.

How long does it take to receive medications?

Timing depends on medication availability and the dispensing partner you are working with.

When medications need to be shipped from RoundtableRx, most orders are processed within one business day and delivered within 1–3 business days.

Can medications be mailed to me?

Repository medications are dispensed through participating pharmacies, clinics, and healthcare providers. Availability of mail delivery depends on the dispensing partner you are working with.

For Healthcare Organizations & Pharmacies Receiving Medication

How does my organization become a dispensing partner?

Becoming a dispensing partner is simple. Organizations complete a Notice of Participation form that identifies the organization, provides the applicable license information, and confirms that the organization will follow Minnesota's medication repository requirements.

Once the form is signed and returned, RoundtableRx will create user accounts and provide access to the ordering portal so your team can begin requesting medications.

Is there a cost to participate?

No. There is no cost to become a dispensing partner, place medication orders, or receive shipments from RoundtableRx.

To help offset dispensing costs, Minnesota law allows dispensing partners to charge an optional dispensing fee of up to 250% of the current Medicaid dispensing fee. Any dispensing fee collected is retained by the dispensing partner.

What licenses or requirements are needed?

Organizations must have the legal authority to dispense medications under Minnesota law.

This may include:

  • A licensed pharmacy
  • A clinic operating under prescriber dispensing authority
  • An individual healthcare professional authorized to dispense medications within the scope of their professional license

Organizations must also complete a Notice of Participation and agree to comply with Minnesota's medication repository requirements.

Additional Considerations for Pharmacies

Repository medications must be provided to eligible patients at no cost. Pharmacies may charge an allowable dispensing fee as permitted by Minnesota law but may not charge for the medication itself.

Additional Considerations for Clinics and Prescribers

Repository medications are not samples. They are prescription medications that must be prescribed, dispensed, documented, and managed in the same manner as any other prescription medication. Eligible prescribers may dispense repository medications directly to their patients under Minnesota law.

What patients are eligible to receive repository medications?

Repository medications are available to Minnesota residents who are uninsured or underinsured. There are no income requirements to participate.

Because inventory is donated and changes over time, RoundtableRx serves as a safety-net resource for patients who may otherwise go without needed medications due to cost or lack of coverage.

How does RoundtableRx define "underinsured"?

Underinsured is generally defined as a patient who may be unable to obtain or consistently afford their prescribed medications due to cost.

This can include patients with high deductibles, significant copays, coverage gaps, or other financial barriers that place them at risk of delaying, rationing, or going without needed medications.

How do we place medication orders?

Dispensing partners place orders through RoundtableRx's online ordering portal. Access is provided after enrollment is complete.

You can also view our live inventory at any time before joining the program.

Can I check inventory before enrolling?

Yes. Our live inventory is publicly available and can be viewed at any time.

Please note that inventory changes frequently as medications are donated and dispensed.

How are medications shipped?

RoundtableRx ships medications using USPS Priority Mail throughout Minnesota.

Orders are typically shipped the next business day and are generally delivered within 1–3 business days, depending on location.

Can pharmacies and clinics both participate?

Yes.

Licensed pharmacies may dispense repository medications in the same manner as other medications within their inventory, subject to repository program requirements.

Clinics and healthcare organizations may participate through prescriber dispensing, allowing eligible prescribers to dispense repository medications directly to patients under Minnesota law.

What support and training are provided?

Every new dispensing partner receives onboarding and compliance support.

This includes:

  • A compliance cheat sheet and reference materials
  • Initial training by phone, Zoom, or in person
  • Guidance on patient eligibility and documentation requirements
  • Ongoing access to the RoundtableRx team for questions and support

What reporting is required?

Before receiving repository medications, organizations must complete a Notice of Participation form.

When a patient receives repository medication for the first time, the patient must complete the Combined Patient Form. A copy of this form must be returned to RoundtableRx within 10 days of dispensing.

After the initial patient form is submitted, organizations do not need to routinely send additional patient paperwork to RoundtableRx. However, dispensing partners must maintain records of repository medications dispensed and be able to identify which patients received repository inventory.

RoundtableRx monitors medication recalls and will notify dispensing partners if any repository medications are affected.

Financial Support & Medication Donations

What types of donations does RoundtableRx accept?

RoundtableRx relies on two forms of support: medication donations and financial contributions.

Eligible medications may be donated by healthcare organizations and individuals as allowed under Minnesota law. These donations provide the inventory that is distributed to patients.

Financial contributions from individuals, foundations, businesses, and community supporters help fund the systems, pharmacist oversight, shipping, compliance activities, and infrastructure required to safely redistribute medications across Minnesota.

How can I financially support RoundtableRx?

There are many ways to support RoundtableRx, including making a one-time gift, becoming a recurring donor, connecting us with potential partners, or sharing information about the program.

Every contribution helps improve medication access for Minnesotans in need.

How are financial contributions used?

Financial contributions support the operational costs required to collect, inventory, review, ship, and distribute medications across Minnesota.

Donations also help support pharmacist oversight, technology infrastructure, compliance activities, partner support, and program growth.

Does my financial contribution pay for medications?

The medications distributed through RoundtableRx are donated by healthcare organizations and individuals and provided to the program at no cost.

Financial contributions support the infrastructure required to safely get those medications to patients, including pharmacist review, inventory management, shipping, technology, compliance, and operational support.

Is my financial contribution tax deductible?

RoundtableRx is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Financial contributions may be tax deductible as allowed by law.

Please consult your tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

Can I make a recurring financial contribution?

Yes. Supporters can choose to make either a one-time gift or a recurring monthly contribution.
